This is an excellent resource for finding grant makers in the US and for improving proposal writing.  The Foundation Center offers a free on-line proposal writing course.

The  focus for funding is around Conservation and Sustainability, Safe and Healthy Children and Families, Global Education and Workplace Skills, and Business and Community Partnerships.

Offers support in 4 strategic areas: equity, democratic governance and rule of law, sustainable economic development and conservation and natural resources management.

Funds and shares knowledge about work in early childhood development and child rights.

Has three grant making areas: financial education, educating the next generation and building communities and entrepreneurs.

Offers grants to women’s organizations working on health, education, economic independence, political participation and prevention of violence against women and children.

IAF is an independent agency of the United States government that provides grants to nongovernmental and community-based organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean for innovative, sustainable and participatory self-help programs. The IAF primarily funds partnerships among grassroots and nonprofit organizations, businesses and local governments, directed at improving the quality of life of poor people and strengthening participation, accountability and democratic practices.

Offers support to projects addressing environmental policy, economic policy or governance issues in Latin America.

W.K. Kellogg Foundation http://www.wkkf.org/

Priority geographic areas targeted include: southern México and Central America (including parts of the Caribbean), northeast of Brazil, and the Andean zones of Bolivia, Peru, and southern of Ecuador.

The foundation also supports projects in the area of application of knowledge and best practices.

Offers support to projects in 5 areas: improving the effectiveness of resources for development, supporting effective policies to assist the world’s poorest farmers, ensuring quality education in the developing world, projects in Mexico, and strengthening the knowledge base for development.
